About the race

Swim4Dreams - Open Water Festival is a large-scale sports and charity event, now in its second edition, which transforms Călărași into the capital of endurance swimming. The festival takes place over four days, utilizing two main locations: the Călărași Tourist Leisure Port and the Siderurgic Canal.

Beyond the open water swimming competitions, the event has a noble purpose: raising funds for the construction of the 'Casa de la Călărași', a recovery center for children with disabilities. The atmosphere is vibrant, featuring live concerts, Kendama competitions, and a fireworks display, bringing together athletes from Romania, Slovenia, and the Republic of Moldova under the aegis of swimming legends such as Martin Strel.

Where to stay

Călărași offers a range of modest options for participants, including local guesthouses and small boutique hotels near the port area. Many visitors opt for lakeside guesthouses that provide easy access to the riverbanks. Prices typically range from €40 to €80 per night, depending on proximity to the Canalul Siderurgic and the level of service provided. Local lodging options are available for those looking to stay within walking distance of the start line.

Things to do nearby

The Bărăgan region is well-suited for birdwatching, as the steppe landscape is home to the rare Great Bustard and local lark species. Visitors can explore the riverine wetlands via kayak or SUP to better understand the Borcea branch dynamics outside of the race. For those interested in regional history, local culinary experiences often feature traditional Danube fish preparations. Activities in the surrounding area provide a look at the natural landscape beyond the race course.
