About the race
The Cíes Islands Challenge is a long-distance event covering the 10 km swim that separates the Cíes Islands from the city of Vigo. The course begins at the iconic Rodas beach on the Cíes Islands and finishes at Vao beach in Vigo, crossing the waters of the Atlantic.
This is a non-competitive crossing with a limit of 150 swimmers. Participants are divided into 4 groups according to their pace, calculated based on their 3,000-meter time. The use of a wetsuit is mandatory for all swimmers, given the nature of the open-water event.

Vigo offers a variety of lodgings ranging from traditional stone-built guesthouses in the Casco Vello to modern boutique hotels overlooking the port. Budget-conscious participants often favor urban apartments or nearby camping facilities situated along the coastal roads toward the beaches. Expect to pay between €70 and €150 per night depending on the proximity to the Ría and the level of service provided. Booking in advance is recommended for the June period when local maritime activity increases.
