Swimmers entering the water in August will experience temperatures typical of the Morelos mid-summer, generally warm and inviting for long-distance efforts. Unlike the river currents found at Nado en Río Las Estacas, the lake remains largely static, though you should anticipate a slight surface chop if the morning breeze picks up. A submerged history

Navigating the buoyed course, you are essentially swimming over a silent, submerged history. The original village of San Juan Bautista Tequesquitengo was claimed by the rising waters during the 19th century, following the deliberate diversion of irrigation streams from a nearby hacienda. By 1865, the entire town was lost to the depths. Today, the dome of the church rests approximately 6 meters below the surface. A marker buoy identifies this spot, providing a concrete focal point during the longer distances like the 5k.
