5° Periplo Isola Martana Lago di Bolsena
- Sep 27, 2026
- Distance: 4.5km
About the race
The open water swimming event on Lake Bolsena has been revived thanks to the efforts of A.S.D. TUSCIA OPEN WATER, filling the void left by the previous competition that took place between Isola Bisentina and Capodimonte. The event is a non-competitive swim that combines sport with the promotion of the local territory.
The course starts from the Marta-Kornoss beach, circles the Isola Martana, and returns to the starting point. The day concludes with an awards ceremony for all participants and a convivial lunch, in a setting supported by the Municipality of Marta and with the collaboration of the Lega Navale Italiana for water safety.

Where to stay
The lakeside town of Marta offers authentic accommodations ranging from renovated traditional fishermen's houses to small, family-run guesthouses. Expect to pay between €70 and €130 per night for a double room depending on proximity to the port. For those preferring an outdoor experience, there are several campsites situated directly along the southern beach, providing easy access to the water for early morning warm-ups. Booking in advance is recommended for late September, as the area remains popular for weekend excursions.
Things to do nearby
The region around the lake is defined by its deep Etruscan roots and volcanic landscape. Visitors often explore the archaeological sites around the crater or take a kayak to circle the islands, offering a different perspective on the lake's geography. The surrounding hills are home to numerous vineyards known for the local Est! Est!! Est!!! wine, perfect for post-race tastings. Hikers can also find trails that climb the crater walls, providing panoramic views of the entire basin and the distant islands.
